In 1999, Alexander E. Blagov graduated from the Physics Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University, specializing in physics.

In 2006, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences on the topic "Features of X-ray wave diffraction on crystals modulated by low-frequency ultrasound."

In 2016, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences on the topic: "Development of methods of X-ray diffraction diagnostics of condensed media under dynamic influences", specialty 01.04.07 Physics of Condensed Matter.

In 2022, he was elected as a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Department of Nanotechnology and Information Technology.

In 2025 he was elected as an academician of the International Association of Academies of Sciences.

• Physics of interaction of ionizing radiation with matter,
• X-ray diffraction and scattering,
• phase-sensitive X-ray methods,
• condensed matter under external influences,
• processes of self-organization of crystalline and weakly ordered materials,
• synchrotron radiation sources and stations,
• X-ray free electron lasers.

Author of over 150 scientific publications, including 85 in peer-reviewed journals and 8 patents. Hirsch index — 15 (RSCI, Web of Science).

Experience

• 2012−2015: Deputy Head of the Scientific Department of X-ray and Synchrotron Diagnostics at the Institute of Crystallography of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
• 2015−2018: Head of the Kurchatov Synchrotron and Neutron Research Complex of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.
• 2018−2019: First Deputy Director for Research at the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.
• 2019−2021: Director of the Kurchatov Institute.
• Since 2021, Vice President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.
